Dallas Summer Musicals: Ragtime
This 2015-2016 season of Dallas Summer Musicals, I am proud to be a member of the DSM Showbiz Crew. Through the program, I will be given tickets to a few shows on its opening night and I get to let you guys know how the performance goes!
I love the small, personal touches added to this night at the theatre. While we were checking in our tickets and finding our proper doors at Music Hall at Fair Park, we were serenaded by a costumed accordion player. These additions put us right into turn of the 20th century New York, before we even took our seats.
I didn't know much about "Ragtime" before opening night. I haven't read the book and didn't do much research before experiencing the performance first-hand. Without leaving any spoilers, the show is full of sporadic laughs and historical musical numbers, wrapped in a tragic tale about family, cultural divisions and strangers' lives intertwining.
It'll make you laugh. It'll make you cry. It'll make you think, long after the last bow. As I overheard a lady react on our way out, "Wow. Just wow." I couldn't have described it any better, myself.
Check out Ragtime for yourself, now through June 5 with Dallas Summer Musicals at The Music Hall at Fair Park.
