I Gotta Wear Shades
Now that I've got some experience in being a pro glasses-wearer (aka: got my first pairs approx. three months ago), I've learned a few things:
1. The headaches go away pretty quickly. It basically took me about 48 hours before my eyes and head adjusted to wearing glasses and now they're perfectly fine.
2. You will wear them ALL the time, even if they're just "as needed.". I find myself having them on at my desk at work. For no reason. My up-close vision is fine. Don't need them. Just a habit.
3. Bad eyebrow day? Put the glasses on. Mine perfectly disguise any terrible makeup job I do in the eyebrow area and I love having an emergency coverup.
4. Your brows may be hidden, but the expression is your eyes is not. "Of course not Savannah, they're transparent."...well friend, when you're used to only having sunglasses in your life, it's hard to forget that the feeling of glasses on your face is now not hiding the occasional glare, eye-roll or stare down. #Oops
5. Just because you get prescription glasses, doesn't mean you'll be able to see while you drive. I barely ever drive at night. Just when the sun is rising, on my way to work, and as it's going down, on my way home from work. Sun is in my eyes at. all. times. I can see crystal clear now, but when you're looking into the sun, it doesn't matter much. I needed sunglasses. Prescription sunglasses.
Going with what I know (and the great experience I had the first time), I referred back to the folks at Warby Parker. They have several cute options, but I didn't really want to try on anything new. I actually needed them really fast for an upcoming vacation and had to make a quick decision. I picked the sunglasses duplicate of the regular pair I already had - Laurel in Tea Rose Fade.
This is the color-blocked rounded pair that I chose as my professional work glasses and I picked them as sunglasses for the same reason - outfit versatility. They're fun and slightly pink, but still can be a neutral as well. I can wear them in my car, at track meets and on my travels without them clashing with any other colors I have on.
Putting them on outside for the first time was kind of like the moment the optometrist got my lens combination correct during my first eye exam. It makes you feel a little awestruck going from not being able to see details to seeing crisper than you ever have before...and now I have that feeling outside in the Texas sunshine too!
Again, if you're having trouble with eyesight, I totally encourage you to go get something done about it. I don't think you realize what you're really missing until you finally get a glimpse of what you SHOULD be seeing. It's magical!
